‘The trees didn’t only meet us in the forest; some met us in the garden too. I’m not quite sure how to talk about this, but I’m prepared to try.

We stood together, she asked, and there was movement. But not enough to touch. And of course it could have been a gust of wind to which none of the other branches wanted to respond. Or maybe it was too late for us to give it long enough, and in our hurrying, we missed the moment. It’s hard to tell with certain workings of our system.

But next morning, after dawn, I went again and gave the invitation. And stood

And stood

 And stood

Getting past my own preoccupations. Laying down my need to be the one it touched.

And then a branch was resting on my shoulder, and I could see no other movement in the tree.

And I may have been delusional. I may have been inventive in my reading of the situation.  And I might be making this whole thing up.

But I might have sensed some working of the spirit of our ecosystem moving in that tree, though it was way beyond my understanding.’

I’m not conventionally religious (though, full disclosure, I’m a Quaker of some sort and shape), but I feel at home with Spirit. Woo-woo. Mysticism. Whatever.

And increasingly I’m finding that some clients have an interest in that too.

And so we start a conversation.
